A transition metal-substituted silylacetylene [(eta(5)-C5H5)Fe(CO)(2)S
iMe(2)C](2), [FpMe(2)SiC](2) (I) was synthesized and characterized spe
ctroscopically and structurally. I crystallized in the monoclinic spac
e group P2(1)/n, a = 13.011(3) Angstrom, b = 12.912(3) Angstrom, c = 1
3.175(5) Angstrom, beta = 94.95(2). The acetylene linkage is reactive
toward Co-2(CO)(8) to form I. Co-2(CO)(6) (II) which was also characte
rized spectroscopically and by single crystal X-ray diffraction. II cr
ystallized in the orthorhombic space group Pbca, a = 17.64(2) Angstrom
, b = 14.225(10) Angstrom, c = 24.49(2) Angstrom.
