Vl. Lyuboshitz et Mi. Podgoretsky, SPIN STRUCTURE OF NARROW PAIR CORRELATIONS OF IDENTICAL PARTICLES, Physics of atomic nuclei, 59(3), 1996, pp. 449-458
Narrow pair correlations of identical particles with nonzero spin are
studied. The spin structure of the correlation function for identical
particles with close momenta is considered. Spin correlations associat
ed with the effects of Bose and Fermi statistics and with final-state
interaction are comprehensively analyzed in the model of independent s
ingle-particle sources. Single- and two-particle polarization paramete
rs are found as functions of the difference between the 4-momenta of i
dentical particles. It is shown that, if the generation of two unpolar
ized identical nucleons with close momenta is followed by the scatteri
ng of one of these nucleons, spin correlation results in the polarizat
ion of the other (unscattered) nucleon. This fact can, in principle, b
e used to prepare nucleon beams with controllable spin polarization wi
thout exerting any direct action on particles to be polarized. Other p
ossible mechanisms of spin correlation are discussed.
