A thermogravimetric analysis has been applied to processes in R6M5 hig
h-speed steel powder thermochemically treated in ammonia. Temperature
ranges have been identified for the adsorption of nitrogen, nitriding,
and denitriding. To prepare a powder containing nitrogen of superequi
librium concentration, conditions have been defined for maximum nitrog
en uptake, fullest appliance of phase transitions, and diffusion. isot
