Sunlight exposure produces a variety of adverse cutaneous effects. Ery
thema, photosensitivity, and immunologic alterations represent acute e
vents, whereas photoaging and carcinogenesis are long-term consequence
s. These adverse cutaneous sequelae can be minimized by photoprotectio
n in the form of sun avoidance, regular cover-up with clothing, and su
nscreen application. This chapter reviews the diagnosis and treatment
of sun-related skin disorders and recommendations for reducing photoda
mage.
