Abstract
We study spontaneous pattern formation in a system consisting of an al kali-metal vapor cell placed in front of a feedback mirror and driven by a vector optical field. Through a combination of linear and nonline ar analysis we are able to predict the formation of squares, rolls, rh omboids, hexagons or ''honeycombs'' for appropriate parameter values. Our predictions are confirmed by numerical integration of the model eq uations.
