The absorption of electromagnetic radiation in a plasma is studied in
the presence of ion sound turbulence that is excited by electrons drif
ting in the crossed electric and magnetic fields. The effective electr
on collision frequencies, which determine the absorption of radiation
polarized in the direction normal to the magnetic field, are obtained
for frequencies close to and far from the electron cyclotron frequency
. In the latter case, for linearly polarized radiation, the anisotropy
of absorption, which depends on the orientation of the electric field
of the radiation with respect to the direction of the electron drift,
is found to be strong.
