Ts. Roukis et al., FUNCTIONAL-SIGNIFICANCE OF TORSION OF THE TENDON OF TIBIALIS POSTERIOR, Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 86(4), 1996, pp. 156-163
The authors describe the anatomical necessity and functional significa
nce of torsion of the tendon of tibialis posterior. A wooden model of
the right lower extremity has been constructed which includes represen
tations of the ankle, subtalar, and oblique midtarsal joints. The mode
l is used to show that the presence of torsion within the tendon of ti
bialis posterior eliminates the need for any longitudinal slippage bet
ween individual tendon fibers during triplane movement of the joints o
f the lower extremity.
