An. Starodumov, PULSE-TRAIN COMPRESSION UP TO TERABIT RATES USING 4-WAVE-MIXING IN BIREFRINGENT FIBER, Optics communications, 124(3-4), 1996, pp. 365-372
The nonlinear optical method of pulse train compression up to terahert
z repetition rate is described theoretically. Degenerate four-photon m
ixing of counterpropagating pulses in birefringent fiber is proposed t
o compress pulse train. Analytical expressions of the intensity and pe
riod of compressed pulse train are derived. The timing jitter problem
and limitations of the efficiency of the four-photon mixing caused by
the attendant nonlinear optical effects are discussed.
