Abstract
1. Intracellular K+ activity (a(K)i) (368 mM) is above electrochemical equilibrium and constitutes the major portion of intracellular osmola lity. 2. Neither glycine nor glucose had any effect on (a(K)i). 3. Oua bain decreased (a(K)i) from control toward electrochemical equilibrium . 4. Activity coefficient of K+ reflects a totally free K+ intracellul ar pool for this ion.
