Neurological manifestations of HIV/AIDS is reviewed and discussed. It
is noted that neurological. manifestations are some of the commonest m
odes of clinical presentation of HIV/AIDS. At autopsy, the prevalence
approaches 100%. These manifestations include: involvement of the high
er functions, craniopathies, spinal cord disease, peripheral neuropath
y and muscle disease. It is therefore stressed that the central nervou
s system must be particularly assessed in patients with HIV/AIDS and w
here the clinician is not sure of the neurological diagnosis, a referr
al to the neurologist is recommended as some of these are treatable.
