Angle-resolved photoelectron spectra encompassing the (A T-2(1u) + B T
-2(2u)) and the C(2)E(g) states of sulphur hexafluoride have been reco
rded in the 20-22 eV photon energy range using synchrotron radiation.
The envelope of the C(2)E(g) photoelectron band displays a complicated
structure which varies significantly both as a function of excitation
energy and as a function of electron ejection angle. The data for the
C(2)E(g) State have been analysed by dividing the band into eight reg
ions, specified by their binding energies. The results show that, as t
he photon energy is varied, the branching ratio for each region exhibi
ts an enhancement at an electron kinetic energy of about 2.5 eV. The p
hotoelectron angular distributions also vary significantly across the
band. Various interpretations for this resonant behaviour are discusse
d.
