Abstract
The reaction of perylene with anhydrous bismuth bromide leads to a new structurally characterized pi-arene complex. Arene-bismuth interactio ns and weak pi ...pi perylene-perylene contacts stabilize the molecula r framework of tetrameric Bi4Br12 in the solid state. A one-dimensiona l arene-tetrameric unit-arene packing motif is observed.
