''Information source'' studies presumed that media exposure led to dif
ferent attitudes and behaviors. Recent research suggests that motivati
ons and interests lead to the selection of a set of information source
s. Using ten topics this study focused on the relation of the interest
people had in these topics and the sources they selected for informat
ion about the topics. As interest in a topic increased so did the numb
er of sources, and as interest changed so did the information ''repert
oire.''
