Y. Leterrier et C. Gsell, MULTILAYER PLUG-FLOW MODELING OF THE FAST STAMPING PROCESS FOR A POLYPROPYLENE GLASS FIBER-COMPOSITE/, Polymer composites, 17(2), 1996, pp. 231-241
The isothermal compression at 200 degrees C of a polypropylene/glass f
iber composite was investigated in both axisymmetric and unidirectiona
l flows. The overall stress/strain behavior at various compression str
ain rates was recorded and the induced orientation of the fibers is in
vestigated. It is shown that, in the high speed range, the macroscopic
flow process controlled by both the viscous extension and the relativ
e sliding of parallel fibrous layers. The evolution of the compression
force is modeled as the sum of a viscous resistance and an interlamin
ar friction.
