Abstract
A simple method for measuring the outer diameter of an optical fiber i s presented. The method is based on observing the interference of ligh t reflected in the fiber-air interfaces of a fiber side illuminated by a laser beam at oblique incidence. This technique is easy to implemen t and could be used for real-time monitoring of fiber diameter during fiber drawing. (C) 1996 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engin eers.
