The Maxwell Garnett approach has been used to estimate the effective p
roperties of a nonlinear, bianisotropic particulate composite. This co
mposite is formed by randomly dispersing electrically small, linear bi
anisotropic inclusions in a nonlinear, homogeneous, isotropic dielectr
ic-magnetic medium. The dielectric susceptibility of the host medium i
s assumed to depend on the electric field. Various types of nonlinear
bianisotropic composites can thus be tailored by materials scientists
for optical purposes. (C) 1996 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentatio
