The database on electronic transitions in slow collisions between medi
um-Z metallic ions and H, H-2, and He targets is examined. Semiclassic
al close-coupling calculations are presented for electron transfer in
Si4+-H, Ni10+-H, Si4+-He, Ti4+-He, Ti4+-H-2 and Fe8+-H-2 collisions in
an energy range of about 1 - 100 keV/u. The calculated distributions
of electron transfer over the final states of the projectiles are disc
ussed. For the case of Si4+-He collisions, we also assess the process
of target excitation.
