Abstract
Early somatosensory evoked potentials have a great prognostic value in comatose patients. Normal cortical responses predict a good outcome. Treatment should be fully continued even if clinical findings indicate a poor prognosis. On the other hand the bilateral loss of cortical re sponse in a primary supratentorial lesion of an adult patient tells a poor prognosis and justifies to discontinue intensive care therapy.
