The crystal and molecular structure of hloroacerylcarbamate)-13-hydrox
y-marasm-7-en-5-oic acid gamma-lactone (2) has been determined by X-ra
y diffraction methods. A crystalline derivative 2 has been obtained by
condensation of the oily 13-hydroxy-marasm-7-en-5-oic acid gamma-lact
one (1) with trichloroacetyl isocyanate. Compound 2 crystallizes in an
orthorhombic system, space group P2(1)2(1)2(1), with cell dimensions
a = 10.3101(7), b = 11.465(2), and c = 16.580(1) Angstrom. The expecte
d conformation of marasmene skeleton as postulated from other spectral
investigations of 1 was fully confirmed.
