Abstract
The heuristic model of flux how and flux cutting in a current-carrying type-II superconductor in the presence of axial magnetic field advanc ed by G. E. Marsh [Phys. Rev. B 50, 571 (1994)] is reconsidered on the basis of exact solutions for vortex ring and helix. It is shown that there are no grounds for the new dissipation cycle proposed by the aut hor.
