A wide variety of sulphides can be readily converted to the correspond
ing sulphoxides in good to excellent yields by treatment with a combin
ation of sodium chlorite, (salen)manganese(III) complex, and chromatog
raphic alumina in dichloromethane under mild and neutral conditions.
