Ep. Panchenko et al., INDOBUFEN AND PENTOXIFYLLINE IN TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH ATHEROSCLEROSIS OF LOWER-EXTREMITIES - CLINICAL AND HEMOSTASIOLOGICAL EFFECTS, Kardiologia, 36(1), 1996, pp. 24-29
Clinical and hemostasiological effects of indobufen and pentoxifylline
were compared in 71 patients with atherosclerosis of lower extremitie
s verified by doppler ultrasound or angiography, All patients had stab
le stage II intermittent claudication. Indobufen (400 mg/day) was give
n to 35 patients and pentoxifylline (600 mg/day) - to 36 patients. Dur
ation of the study was 6 mounths. Treatment was stopped prematurely in
13 patients because of exacerbation of ulcer in 2/0, diagnosis of can
cer in 1/1, dyskinesia of bile passages in 0/2, posttraumatic enucleat
ion in 1/0, stroke in 0/2 patients in indobufen and pentoxifylline gro
ups, respectively. Both drugs significantly increased walking distance
but by the end of 6 months efficacy of indobufen was considerably hig
her. Results of treatment were related to levels of cholesterol and d-
dimer, Indobufen diminished sensitivity of platelets to main inducers
of aggregation while pentoxifylline blocked initial steps of coagulati
on (at the stage of prothrombin activation) and reduced concent of pla
sminogen activator inhibitor.
