Three charge - transfer complexes (CTC) eta(5) - C5H5Fe[C5H4C(CH3)=NC(
6)H(4)R - p] - eta(5)/C-60(2a R = H; 2b R = CH3; 2c R = OCH3) were for
med in toluene at room temperature through the interaction between C-6
0 and three ferrocenylketimines eta(5) - C5H5Fe[C5H4C(CH3)=NC(6)H(4)R
- p] - eta(5) (1a R = H; 1b R = CH3; 1c R = OCH3). The UV spectra of t
hese CTC gave the evidence for their existence. The CTC formation cons
tants of 2a, 2b and 2c at room temperature in toluene were determined
to be 0.769mo1(-1) . dm(3), 0.928mol(-1) . dm(3) and 2.353 mol(-1) . d
m(3), respectively using the Benesi - Hildebrand equation. These const
ants are much higher that those of CTC derived from organic amines and
C-60, which strongly supports the double charge - transfer interactio
n of C-60 With both the ferrocenyl and the imine moieties in ferroceny
lketimine.
