The reaction between K2PtCl4 and penten [N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-aminoeth
yl)ethylenediamine] gave a Magnus-type double salt, [Pt(C10H30N6)][PtC
l4](2).3H(2)O, in which the diprotonated penten ligand (pentenH(2)) se
rves as a tetradentate chelating ligand. The complex involves an ion p
air, {[Pt(pentenH(2))][PtCl4]}(2+). These two mononuclear units have a
n attractive interaction for each other, with several hydrogen bonds f
ormed between the amine groups and Cl atoms. The two Pt atoms are shif
ted out of their ideal coordination planes towards each other and the
Pt ... Pt distance within this unit is 3.414 (3) Angstrom.
