The syntheses of unexpected complexes formulated as [R(2)Sn(L)]O-2 (wh
ere R = C2H5, eta-C4H9, HL = benzohydroxamic acid, 4-hydroxybenzo-hydr
oxamic acid and 2-hydroxybenzohydroxamic acid) by reaction of R(2)SnCl
(2)(phen) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) with arylhydroxamic acid in 1 :
1 molar ratio in aqueous media at pH = 7.0 are described. The complex
es were characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight, IR and
H-1 NMR spectroscopy. All complexes have oxygen-bridged dinuclear five
-coordinate and trigonal bipyramidal configurations. The results not o
nly provide a new synthetic method for [R(2)Sn(L)]O-2-type compounds b
ut also are helpful for understanding the hydrolysis reaction of R(2)S
nCl(2)(phen) under physiological conditions.
