H. Cagniant, MOROCCAN APHAENOGASTER (HYMENOPTERA, FORM ICIDAE) - KEY AND CATALOG OF SPECIES, Annales de la Societe entomologique de France, 32(1), 1996, pp. 67-85
In Morocco, the genus Aphaenogaster totalizes 23 species known at the
present time; 6 in the sub-genus Attomyrma : foreli, leveillei, crocea
, mauritanica, nadigi, theryi and 17 in the subgenus Aphaenogaster s.s
tr. : sardoa ssp. anoemica, baronii, A. (suprasp. senilis), sicardi, r
ifensis, gemella, miniata, wilsoni, fallax, atlantis, tinauti, espadal
eri, toriossiani, welersseae, A. (supersp. praedo), A. (supersp curios
a), and A. dejeani. A key is presented as also a survey of the geograp
hical distribution; the High Atlas Mountains and the Atlas of Beni Mel
lal have 6 and 3 strictly endemic species, respectively. Morocco is pr
oving to be the native land of the sub genus Aphaenogaster s.str. (wit
h striated gaster); their number of species in the myrmecofauna apprec
iably decreases in other countries. A phylogenetic relationship essay
in species of the praedo group is presented.
