In Morocco, the ant genus Calmponotus totals 23 taxa : C. vagus, C. ge
stroi, C. fallax, C. ruber, C. spissinodis, C. lateralis, C. truncatus
, C. micans, C. mozabensis, C. hoelldobleri, C. pexus, C. obscuriventr
is, C. cruentatus, C. (supersp. foreli), C. atlantis, C. alii, C. laur
enti, C. seurati, C. serotinus, C. pupillus, C. erigens, C. thoracicus
and C. carinatus. Further studies in C. (supersp. foreli) may allow t
o distinguish several prospecies. A key is presented as also a survey
of geographical distribution, populations and biotopes. Only five spec
ies are strict Moroccan endemic but fourteen species are Maghreb endem
ic.
