A. Agnihotri et al., CHARACTERIZATION OF CENTCHROMAN BINDING-PROTEIN IN PLASMA OF RHESUS-MONKEY (MACACA-MULATTA), Journal of medical primatology, 25(1), 1996, pp. 53-56
Centchroman, a nonsteroidal antifertility agent was studied for its bi
nding to monkey (Macaca mulatta) plasma proteins using charcoal adsorp
tion and electrophoretic techniques. C-14-centchroman showed a low aff
inity binding and did not compete for H-3-cortisol or H-3-DHT binding
sites in plasma. C-14-centchroman binding protein was heat stable in n
ature and showed the electrophoretic pattern similar to that of albumi
n (Rf 0.70). Thus centchroman binds to albumin in monkey plasma which
can be suggested as carrier protein for this contraceptive agent.
