Abstract
The dispersion equation and the wave functions of hole subbands in ult rathin quantum wells and GaAs relation, semiconductors are found in th e zero-radius potential approximation. A calculation of the energy spe ctrum for GaAs/GaAlAs - an ultrathin quantum well - in the zero-radius potential approximation is presented and compared with a calculation performed by the standard envelope-function method. Good agreement bet ween the two methods is obtained for quantum wells whose width is less than 20 Angstrom. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
