PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT ISSUES IN ATM NETWORKS - TRAFFIC AND CONGESTION CONTROL

The goal of this paper is first to introduce performance monitoring as pects of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks and then to focus o n traffic and congestion control schemes, To deal with this performanc e monitoring management, a framework for defining a generic intelligen t and integrated model for network management is described, As an exam ple of the efficiency of this intelligent management architecture, we measure the performance of a new congestion control scheme, This schem e uses the cell loss priority (CLP) bit, the explicit forward congesti on indicator and the explicit backward congestion indicator, The intel ligent management uses different parameters and builds a complex but e fficient control scheme. We show that this new control scheme allows p erformance to be increased by an order of magnitude.
