The photoionization and dissociative photoionizations of carbon tetrac
hloride have been studied both experimentally and theoretically. In ex
periments, we have combined the techniques of synchrotron radiation, m
olecular beam and mass spectrometry to obtain the photoionization effi
ciency spectra for CCl3+, CCl2+, CCl+, C+ and Cl+. Thus we have measur
ed the appearance energies of these ion fragments, which in turn lead
to the various dissociation energies (Do) for CCln+ and CCln. Computat
ionally, we have also obtained the D-0 values by the ab initio Gaussia
n-2 method. The two sets of D-0 values are in good agreement with each
other.
