Conventional PLL's (phase-Locked loops) lack speed, because phase comp
arators cannot achieve time-continuous operation. Instead, a completel
y time-discrete scheme, using a special voltage-controlled oscillator
and a digital controller, provides for response time of 2 cycles, but
with overshoots of 100%. This paper proposes an in-between approach: i
t features finite impulse responses of 3 and 4 cycles with overshoots
of 50% and 33%, respectively.
