Abstract
The first example of the photochemical reaction of coenzyme pyrroloqui nolinequinone (PQQ) with benzyl alcohols is reported, where the triple t excited state of PQQ is the active species which oxidises alcohols t o the corresponding aldehydes; the mechanism of the photochemical redo x reaction between PQQ and benzyl alcohols is discussed.
