A gene for the Paracentrotus lividus ribosomal protein S24, called Pl-
S24, has been isolated and sequenced. Ribosomal protein Pl-S24 consist
s 130 aminoacids and has a molecular weight of 14869 Da. Sequence anal
ysis shows a high percentage (90%) identity with the corresponding gen
e of Strongylocentrotus purpuratus. Hybridization of the cDNA to diges
ted sperm DNA suggests that Pl-S24 is represented in no more than two
copies. Studies of the temporal expression of Pl-S24 gene indicate a g
ood correlation between this and the expression of the rRNA genes both
during oogenesis and embryonic development. (C) 1996 Academic Press.
