Yang's unit stream power formula is modified for the computation of to
tal bed-material load in a sediment-laden river with a high concentrat
ion of fine suspended materials. Theoretical and laboratory studies in
dicate that modification can be made on the values of particle fall ve
locity, flow viscosity, and relative specific weight without any chang
e of the coefficients used in Yang's original formula. Comparisons bet
ween computed results from the modified formula and field indicate tha
t the modified formula can be used to compute total bed-material load
in the Yellow River with accuracy.
