Abstract
The energy response of a low-cost commercial silicon photodiodes detec tors for alpha particles, fission fragments, internal conversion elect rons and X-rays was studied. An alpha energy resolution of 16.7 keV (F WHM) was obtained for 5.486 MeV alpha-particles from Am-241 which is c omparable in performance with the best surface barrier detectors avail able, that are considerably more expensive.
