Polarimetric observations of the high-albedo asteroid 64 Angelina were
done for the purpose of searching for a polarization opposition effec
t at phase angles of less than 2.4 degrees, We have found a second inv
ersion angle of about 1.5 degrees and positive polarization of 0.5% at
a phase angle of 0.5 degrees. For comparison the polarimetric observa
tions of Comet P/Ashbrook-Jackson are given, Different theoretical app
roaches to the explanation of this phenomenon are discussed. (C) 1996
