Abstract
Relative dipole moments of the Cl-2(A (3) Pi(l(u))-X (1) Sigma(g)(+)(O -g(+)) and B (3) Pi(O-u(+))-X (1) Sigma(g)(+)(O-g(+)) transitions and vibronic level populations have been determined by measurements of the spectra of chlorine atom recombination accompanied by optical rovibro nic transitions. Laser photolysis of Cl-2 + He mixtures with helium pr essures up to 10 atm was used for the production of chlorine atoms and the population of Cl-2(A, B; upsilon) vibronic levels. A Boltzmann di stribution within the Cl-2(A, B; upsilon) and also maybe Cl-2(A' (3) P i(2(u)), A, B' (3) Pi(O-u(-))), B; upsilon) manifold has been found. S ome aspects of the mechanism and kinetics of the population and decay of the Cl-2(A, B; upsilon) levels are discussed.
