Ay. Khesina et al., ASSESSMENT OF POLLUTION OF THE MOSCOW CITY AIR WITH CARCINOGENIC PAH AND N-NITROSAMINES, Eksperimental'naa onkologia, 18(1), 1996, pp. 14-18
Concentration levels of carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
(PAH) estimated by benz(a)pyrene (BP) were determined in air of differ
ent Moscow city areas. BP content varied from 1 ng/m(3) in the eco- lo
gically clean areas (parks and forests) to 10 ng/m(3) in the city cent
er, and 20-30 ng/m(3) in the areas adjacent to large factories and cro
ssroads with heavy traffic. Concentrations of 15 main PAH in the ambie
nt air were determined as well as their profiles (i. e. the ratio of t
heir contents to that of BP). industrial enterprises were shown to be
the main sources of PAH pollution. Concentrations of carcinogenic N-ni
trosamines in the Moscow city air varied from 50 ng/m(3) to 600 ng/m(3
) (in the areas of resin factory emissions). The necessity of routine
control of pollution with PAH (BP) and N-nitrosamines (estimated by N-
nitro-sodimethylamine) has been shown.
