Abstract
Using immunocytochemical methods and synthetic oligosaccharide probes, there has been studied the presence of mannose-6-phosphate (M6P)-bind ing molecules on the surface and in the cytoplasm of human hemopoietic and epithelial cells. There were identified M6P-binding molecules of human malignant transformed epithelial cells. It is a 395 kD protein w ith Ca2+-dependent carbohydrate binding segment. The specificity of th e M6P recognition was demonstrated by inhibition tests in the presence of excess of low molecular weight ligands. Preliminary data suppose i ts participation in the intracellular adhesion processes.
