Abstract
The two genes encoding maltooligosyl trehalose synthase and maltooligo syl trehalose trehalohydrolase, which are related to biosynthesis of a lpha,alpha-trehalose, were cloned from Rhizobium sp. M-11. Sequence an alysis showed that the synthase gene composed of 2316 bp was connected with the hydrolase gene of 1788 bp by an overlap of one nucleotide. T he deduced amino acid sequences of both enzymes have several regions c ommon to amylolytic enzymes belonging to ''alpha-amylase family''.
