L. Ng et al., STATISTICAL-ANALYSIS OF COMMERCIAL DRIVER AND DISPATCHER REQUIREMENTSFOR ADVANCED TRAVELER INFORMATION-SYSTEMS, Transportation research. Part C, Emerging technologies, 3(6), 1995, pp. 353-369
This paper analyzes the responses from two nationwide surveys designed
to obtain user information requirements for the design of advanced tr
aveler information systems (ATIS) and commercial vehicle operations (C
VO) with respect to commercial system operators (dispatchers) and comm
ercial vehicle drivers. A total of 673 returned surveys (348 dispatche
r surveys and 325 commercial driver surveys), were used in the analysi
s. Mathematical models were developed, using a binomial legit to predi
ct whether the commercial driver or dispatcher would use an intelligen
t transportation system, and an ordered probit to estimate the importa
nce of information (i.e. route and navigation, roadside services, pers
onal communication and road and traffic information) to be provided by
in-vehicle information systems. The results of this study provide gui
delines for the design of information systems and help define informat
ional requirements for users of ATIS/CVO.
