Abstract
The Governing Principle of Dissipative Processes (GPDP) is the most wi dely applied variational principle in non-equilibrium thermodynamics. It is not a usual 'hamiltonian type' principle, therefore there are a lot of misunderstandings and misconceptions regarding its applicabilit y and completeness. In this paper its structure and domain of applicab ility is investigated and cleared up.
