C. Buerhop et R. Weissmann, TEMPERATURE DEVELOPMENT OF GLASS DURING CO2-LASER IRRADIATION .1. MEASUREMENT AND CALCULATION, Glass technology, 37(2), 1996, pp. 69-73
Knowledge of the temperature rise of glass especially at its surface d
uring CO2 laser irradiation (lambda=10.6 mu m) is of great importance.
Soda-lime-silica glass was chosen for this study of temperature devel
opment during laser heat treatment. The temperature during laser irrad
iation was measured using an infrared pyrometer (lambda=4.8-5.2 mu m).
This is difficult because steep temperature gradients exist and the p
yrometer has a nonzero registration depth which causes measurement err
ors. In addition the heating was calculated numerically by considering
temperature dependent parameters. The real surface temperature was de
termined by evaluating the measured values and the calculated data. Co
mparison of the results showed that the temperature development can be
calculated by a numerical method. On this basis the measured values c
an be corrected to obtain the real surface temperature.
