Abstract
A study of the C-12(Mg-24, O-16 O-16)He-4 reaction has revealed O-16 O-16 breakup from states in S-32 in the excitation region ranging fro m 32 to 38 MeV. The spins of the states near 33, 35, and 38 MeV of exc itation, obtained from angular correlations, are measured to be (10(+) or 12(+)), (12(+) or 14(+)), and (14(+) or 16(+)), respectively. Thes e may be interpreted as arising from a highly deformed band in S-32.
