Abstract
Several studies have reported olfactory deficits in schizophrenic pati ents. This study examines local cerebral metabolic rate within two cor tical areas in eight normal men and eight schizophrenic men. A signifi cantly greater degree of hypometabolism was observed in the schizophre nic men in the cortical area of the nondominant hemisphere that receiv es direct uncrossed olfactory projections.
