Lb. Fedushinskaya et al., COLLOIDAL AND RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF ALUMINUM-OXIDE SUSPENSIONS CONTAINING POLYMER, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 57(1), 1995, pp. 121-123
Aggregation stability of aqueous suspensions of low concentration and
processes of structure formation in concentrated hydrodisperions of al
uminum oxide are investigated in the presence of high-molecular-weight
compounds of different nature: poly(vinyl alcohol), polyoxyethylene,
poly(methacrylic acid), and copolymer of maleic anhydride and styrene.
The effect of polymer additives on the average dispersion characteris
tics of suspensions and the degree of aggregation of aluminum oxide pa
rticles are studied. The quantitative characteristics of the plasticit
y of systems and the intensity of interparticle interaction are determ
ined by means of characteristic indices and constants. The lower limit
of structure formation in dispersions containing polymer is determine
d, and the thickness of adsorbed solvation layers at the surface of al
uminum oxide particles is estimated.
