Abstract
Magnetic dichroism measurements of the valence bands of films of fee C o/Cu (001) have been performed using angle-resolved UV photoemission i n low-symmetry, off-normal emission geometries, and linearly polarized light. Asymmetries of magnitude 4% are observed upon magnetization re versal. Evidence of both spin-dependent surface transmission and magne tic dichroism in the angular distribution of photoelectrons is seen. T he asymmetry spectra indicate sensitivity to both magnetic exchange sp litting and to spin-orbit splitting. (C) 1996 American Institute of Ph ysics.
