Magnetization curves, Curie temperature, and lattice constants of twin
-free [111]-oriented single-crystal Tb Dy-0.27(0.73)(Fe1-xAlx)(2) (x=0
, 0.1) were investigated. It was observed that with the substitution o
f Al for Fe, Curie temperature and magnetocrystalline anisotropy decre
ase, and lattice constants increase. It is shown from the curves of ma
gnetic moment versus temperature that the anisotropy compensation temp
erature of Tb0.27Dy0.73(Fe0.9Al0.1)(2) is 280 K, which is higher than
260 K of Tb0.27Dy0.73Fe2. Besides, the saturation magnetostriction lam
bda(111) of Tb0.27DY0.73(Fe0.9Al0.1)(2) was measured by using strain g
auge method. The result indicates that lambda(111) increases from 1.01
x 10(-3) to 1.54 x 10(-3) as the compressive,stress is increased from
0 to 12 MPa, and that the maximal D-33(d lambda/dH) is about 1.0. It
is the first time to present the experimental data of the twin-free[11
1]-oriented single crystal of Tb0.27Dy0.73(Fe0.9Al0.1)(2). (C) 1996 Am
