We have successfully prepared a new nanocomposite magnet consisting of
a mixture of a magnetically hard Pr2Co14B phase and a soft Co phase u
sing the technique of melt spinning. The final microstructure with the
above phases is formed after annealing the melt-spun ribbons through
an intermediate transformation to the metastable TbCu7-type structure.
Optimum coercivity of 4.3 kOe was observed in a sample with the compo
sition Pr8Co83Nb1B8 after heating above 775 degrees C. (C) 1996 Americ
